Gary George Walker

I’m Gary Walker. I’m a retired engineer, and I spent my working life in the die casting industry.

For a good part of that career I ran Contech, the die casting division of SPX Corporation. Our customers included General Motors, and making parts for an automaker teaches you a lot about precision, cost and doing things right the first time.

I later served as Chairman of NADCA, the North American Die Casting Association, the trade group for the people who design, build and run die casting operations across the continent.

Now retired, I live in the Austin, Texas area. I started Zincky because zinc is a metal I know well, and it deserves more attention than it gets. It protects the steel we build with, it makes some of the most precise parts in the world, and it may play a bigger role in how we store energy. This site is my place to share what I know and what I’m learning.
